• Arched or elliptical windows: some homeowners are putting these kind of windows over their fixed or double hung windows nowadays.

Choosing windows is not an easy task. Remember, windows are going to last you for 20 years or more and hence making an informed decision is extremely important. Usually the more you are able to pay for windows, the better quality you will get. Choose well from a reputable company and choose a contractor who is known to do a good job. Make sure whether the manufacturer is offering you a guarantee for the product. Replacing old windows and buying new ones is a major investment. Do your homework before investing.

Rings by Kenneth Jay Lane show his ingenuity and design talent. One can always recognize a ring by KJL because each piece is imbued with finesse and originality as well as artistic use of color. Mr. Lane has been called “the hottest designer” (Elle Magazine) and a “living legend.”

He has exercised his creative imagination to its fullest since 1963 when he started out in New York City selling his designs on the street in the fashion district. He knows many socialites, movers and shakers, and international celebrities, and has designed for them and with them in mind. Yet his creations are accessible to everyone. His book Faking It tells his story.

Unlike much of the fashion or costume jewelry on the market today, every piece in KJL’s Couture line is made here in the USA by skilled artisans. He has developed a special method of gold and silver plating that never discolors, tarnishes or leaves dark marks on your finger.

Many fashionistas love big rings with sufficient surface to embed detailed designs. Would you enjoy wearing a curious zebra or a toothy tiger on your finger? How about a realistic crystal-encrusted bumblebee? Or a many-petaled peony with a lush pearl center. The parts of a ring:

Bezel or head: the top of a ring into which stones can be mounted or set into separate holders called collets.

Collet (kohl-ay): receptacle for stones which can be either cup shaped or made from metal strips bent to shape.

Hoop or shank: the part that goes around the finger.

Shoulders: the part that joins the hoop and the bezel, frequently decorated. Most of KJL’s rings have stones or other embellishment in this area.

Cuts of stones:

Cabochon (CAB-oh-shaun): a stone with a polished, domed upper surface and a flat back. Also called a “cab”. 

Facet: the face of a stone cut and polished.

Girdle: the widest part of a stone. (Makes sense, huh ladies?)

Brilliant-cut: introduced in the 17th century, has an octagonal table at the top and 58 facets above and below the girdle. By far the most frequent cut for diamonds and precious colored stones.

Cushion-cut, princess cut, marquise, emerald, pear: all are types of stone cuts.

Jessica Simpsons Engagement Ring : Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey began dating when Simpson toured with his band, 98 degrees. She played Nick’s love interest in the music video for the band’s hit song, “My Everything.” The couple began dating although took a break after two years. They reconnected after 9/11, when Jessica called Nick to make sure he was safe…….he was supposed to be flying out of NYC with the band, on that fateful day.

Jessica reportedly dreamed of her wedding day ever since she was a little girl. Nick Lachey proposed with a four carat pear shaped diamond highlighted by two side stones, set in platinum. The picture-perfect proposal took place on a yacht off the coast of Hawai. He sealed the deal on their wedding day, presenting her with an eternity band encrusted with large diamonds.

JessicaÂ’s wedding dreams came to light on her 22nd birthday. In October of 2002, Jessica and Nick walked down the aisle and said “I Do” at the Smith Chapel as part of the Riverbend Baptist Church in Austin, Texas. JessicaÂ’s friend presided over the ceremony where 350 guests were in attendance. Jessica wore a strapless, beaded Vera Wang dress with a sweeping train while Nick wore a Hugo Boss tux. Her blond locks were styled by celebrity hair stylist, Ken Paves. The reception was held at Austin’s Barton Creek Resort, a popular golf and tennis retreat. At the reception, the couples also exchanged songs: Nick sang “My Everything,” a song specially written for Jessica. Jessica had a friend sing a song she’d written for Nick titled “My Love.” Sparks must have been flying between the pair later that evening as Jessica was very vocal about remaining a virgin up until their wedding night.

Jessica was so in love with her wedding and the wedding planning process that she released a book, “I Do: Achieving Your Dream Wedding.” Soon thereafter, the MTV show “Newlyweds” highlighted the couple’s first few years together as a married couple and made the couple a household name.

Four years into their marriage, in December of 2005, the couple called it quits. Both released albums alluding to the difficulties of the breakup of their marriage. Jessica’s album, “A Public Affair,” had a pop flair to it versus Nick’s more melancholy album, “What’s Left of Me.” Both Jessica and Nick managed to find love in the aftermath of their divorce. Jessica was romantically linked to John Mayer for awhile and Nick is still going strong with Vanessa Minnillo.
